Reflections on Women@Beryl IWD events

Watch the Women@Beryl discussions

This week women from tech, business, mobility, public and private sectors got together to help the Women@Beryl network celebrate International Women’s Day.

While we united to celebrate, we also acknowledged through all our debates that true gender equality does not exist everywhere yet.

  • Women are still paid less than men for the same work and still do more than 2.6 times more unpaid care and domestic work than men.
  • Women usually suffer the most when disaster strikes, and that’s something that we’ve witnessed over the last year as the pandemic has gripped the world.
  • One in three women will experience gender-based violence in their lifetimes.

Our week-long series of panel discussions delved deep into this year’s theme ‘Choose to Challenge’, covering a wide range of topics that highlighted the women shaping the world of mobility, and in leadership roles to the importance of including intersectionality in the conversation about diversity,  and the idea of feminist urban planning as well as media’s role in shaping our perception of female cyclists.
